Hangout #4: “After Scotland, Catalonia’s time”
Secretary for Foreign and European Union Affairs, Roger Albinyana, answers the questions of international press using G+Hangouts
The Public Diplomacy Council of Catlaonia organized a G+ Hangout called “After Scotland, Catalonia” with the aim of attending to the questions of international journalists regarding the imminent signing of the decree calling for the consultation on the 9th of November.
The journalists who participated in the Hangout are Alan Clendenning, from Associated Press, Sofia Lorena, from the Portuguese newspaper Publico, Andrea Nicastro, from El Corriere della Sera, and Raphael Proüst, from the French newspaper l’Opinion.
In response to the journalists, the Secretary for Foreign and European Union Affairs of the Government of Catalonia said that “technically everything is ready to guarantee a free and democratic vote” for the consultation scheduled for the 9th of November. Albinyana added that the Catalan government has a mandate from the Parliament and the people of Catalonia to hold the consultation and that in a modern democracy, such as Spain, the right of citizens to freely express themselves regarding their future should not be prevented.
This is the first press conference organized by the Public Diplomacy Council of Catalonia using Google+ Hangout. Diplocat has used this tool regularly to organize online debates with the objective of discussing with experts from different sectors and about different aspects related to public diplomacy and the international promotion of Catalonia.
