Hot air balloon manufacturer Ultramàgic wins award for international promotion of Catalonia
The Public Diplomacy Council of Catalonia (DIPLOCAT) and PIMEC (small and medium business association) present the fourth annual Catalan Business Diplomacy Award
The Catalan Business Diplomacy Award was established to give recognition to companies which, through their international activities, contribute to promoting the image and visibility of Catalonia around the world. This year’s winner is Ultramàgic, a hot air balloon business based in Igualada. The award was given on 19 June 2016 by Carles Puigdemont, President of Catalonia, and Josep Gonzàlez, president of PIMEC, during the fund-raising dinner held at the 2016 Pimes Awards ceremony.
Ultramàgic was founded in 1984 by brothers Josep Maria and Carles Lladó. It is the second largest hot air balloon manufacturer in the world. Based at the Igualada-Òdena aerodrome, they make over one hundred balloons every year – many of which are exported to other European countries, Japan, the USA, South America, or Africa. Ultramàgic collaborates every year with the organization of the European Balloon Festival - an international gathering of hot air balloons in Igualada involving exhibitions and competitions.
The award recognizes the firm’s “stable growth to its present status of having a staff of forty qualified workers, as well as a worldwide distribution network offering direct customer attention”. The other finalists for this year’s award were Espinaler, LC Paper 1881, Munich, Mels Alemany and Grup Balfegó.
Through this award the Public Diplomacy Council of Catalonia and PIMEC recognize the contribution of Catalan companies’ international activities to the promotion of Catalonia and its image, or brand, worldwide. Albert Royo, Secretary General of the Council, explained that the Catalan Business Diplomacy Award “aims to recognize those companies which, through their business activities, help to put Catalonia on the world stage, offering an image of excellence and spreading its values – Ultramàgic is a good example of one such company.”
The objectives of business diplomacy are: to disseminate the brand of the country; to focus actions on regions, markets and countries of priority interest; to eliminate obstacles for trade and commerce; to improve the international image of Catalonia; and, thus, to increase business capacity and investments.
