Election Observation Missions
Public diplomacy is an ideal field in which to implement actions for the furthering of democracy, human rights and conflict prevention. International bodies, public institutions, governments and civil society have the chance to make decisive contributions together in order to advance in the achievement of these goals through actions which complement traditional foreign policies.
Catalonia has a firm commitment to promoting democracy, peace-building, and conflict-resolution as part of its foreign affairs activities. The guiding principles of Catalonia's Statute of Autonomy (self-rule basic law) include the action of public bodies to promote the values of freedom, democracy and solidarity, as well as a culture of peace and actions that build harmony around the globe.
With the aim of promoting an active involvement of Catalan society in the construction of a fairer and more democratic international order, Diplocat performs activities related to election observation, thus accompanying democracy consolidation and citizenship empowerment. Election observation contributes to strengthening elected institutions, building public confidence in electoral processes. Our purpose is to assist countries in holding elections according to international standards.
The roster of the Public Diplomacy Council of Catalonia is composed of experts in international election observation. All Diplocat observers are bound by a Code of Conduct that ensures their neutrality and impartiality and do not interfere in any way with the electoral process.
Diplocat deploys missions in Europe, Northern Africa, Middle East and Latin America.
