DIPLOCAT sets up an observation mission for Uruguay’s local elections
This initiative is being carried out in collaboration with the Barcelona City Council, with the aim to exchange best practice at international level and to show Catalonia’s commitment to democratic values
The Public Diplomacy Council of Catalonia (DIPLOCAT), in collaboration with the Barcelona City Council, has organized a short term election observation mission in Uruguay for their departmental and municipal elections to be held this Sunday. While being a good opportunity for the exchange of good practice, the initiative also positions Catalonia as a serious and responsible international actor, committed to transparency and democratic values.
The observation team is composed of ten people, led by Albert Royo, Secretary General of DIPLOCAT. Four of its members were participants in the electoral observation seminar held by DIPLOCAT in Barcelona last October, and one member is a local expert. DIPLOCAT is at the moment creating a database of people possessing the knowledge required for being part of a mission with these characteristics.
At the end of the mission, the observation team will write a final report, which will be made public. DIPLOCAT already undertook an observation mission during the general elections of Costa Rica in February 2014.
